Day 5 – Understanding the Love

Pastor Ira Towns

May the Lord direct your hearts into God’s love and Christ’s perseverance.
2 Thessalonians 3:5 (NIV1984)

If you had to describe the love of God, what words would you use?  Most of us would go immediately to the story of Jesus.  God was willing to let the human race attack, abuse, and destroy his pride and joy.  God’s love is seen in his willingness to experience hurt for people who would declare their hatred and animosity toward him, even as he offered his help, so that some might be willing to accept his help.

If you had to describe the perseverance of Christ, what words would you use?  We would probably point to the same story; that Christ would endure, to the point of losing his own life, being viciously attacked and humiliated…all while maintaining an attitude full of compassion so others could receive the benefit of his suffering.

Are you willing to let God direct your hearts to realize and to show the kind of love that God showed?  Are you willing to let God direct your hearts to realize and to show the kind of perseverance that Christ showed?

{God I give you the freedom to move in my heart to do exactly what Paul has asked for the people of Thessalonica.  Help me to understand your love and perseverance, but even more than that, help me to live it out to the people around me, even when they are not appreciative or receptive, and when they are just downright mean.  Amen.}
