Love must be sincere. Hate what is evil; cling to what is good. Be devoted to one another in brotherly love. Honor one another above yourselves. Never lacking in zeal, but keeping your spiritual fervor, serving the Lord. Romans 12:9-11 (NIV1984)
Love and Hate, the two most passionate emotions we have. It is easy to use these words frivolously. I love chocolate, but do I love my neighbor as Christ loves me? Do I pray for others with sincerity? Casey Anthony was recently voted the most hated women in America. Paul reminds us it is her sinful life we should hate, not her. I knew a man who prayed for Osama bin Laden after 9-11. This angered me. This man was praying that God would change Osama’s heart and he would turn from his evil ways. I was wrong to be angry with this man for his prayer. Pray with love and sincerity even for those we may not like. This is what our Lord wants us to do.
{Father, I pray I will always reflect your love for me in all I say and do. I pray that I will love others with sincerity. I pray I will know the difference between hating sin and hating my fellow man.}
