Day 3 – Peace Through Prayer

Mike Helsabeck

Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all comprehension, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.
Philippians 4:6-7 (NASB)

Peace through Prayer!  What an incredible promise and prescription for peace provided in these verses.  Over the years this passage has both challenged and comforted me.  There are many things in most our lives that we tend to get anxious over (health, finances, relationships, jobs, future, etc.).  Can we really be anxious for NO THING?  According to this passage we can and should be anxious for nothing, and the means is by taking EVERYTHING to God through prayer and supplication with thanksgiving.  We are not promised a specific outcome, but rather something more important, the peace of God guarding our hearts and minds.  Taking our request in everything to God requires faith and trust in Him.

{LORD I thank You for the promise of Philippians 4:6-7.  Help me to break my tendency toward independence, self-reliance and the anxiety that follows.  May I quickly use my anxious thoughts as the catalyst to come to you in prayer, and may your peace guard my heart and mind.  Thank you LORD.}
